In virtually all industrial applications compressed air demand varies. Air storage vessels in compressed air systems help to balance the pressure supplied to the service lines and compressor controls.
It has the following main functions:
excess of the compressor's capacity.
General Purpose Filters:
Filtration is required to remove contaminants from the compressed air. General Purpose Filters are fitted often after an air receiver and before air dryers
However in carrying out its function, the filter element will over time become blocked which can cause reliability problems, compromising product quality and increased energy consumption through increased pressure drops. Most filter manufacturers recommend that filter elements should be replaced every 12 months as a minimum measure.
It is important to highlight that a 0.4 barg pressure drop associated with blocked filtration equates to 3% increase in air compressor energy consumption!
FiltAir-Receiver® (Patent Granted):
FiltAir-Receiver®combines the benefit of air storage and general purpose filtration in one simple solution. The air receiver is fitted with a separator element, the same type which has been used successfully in a rotary screw air compressor's separator tank design for over 30 years. The separator element is installed at the discharge port, preventing the separated contaminants from passing downstream.
Compressed air velocity, including the velocity of contaminants in an air storage vessel, is significantly reduced. Gravity also reduces the contaminants' kinetic energy as they approach the separator element. This occurrence enables the separation to take place with minimum effort and consequently with an almost negligible pressure drop. The separated contaminants are removed through a zero loss automatic drain. FiltAir-Receiver® can easily achieve an energy saving of 2% compared to a conventional system requiring general purpose filter element replacements at an average pressure differential of 0.3 barg. The simple separation process in FiltAir-Receiver®results in not only energy saving but also in much longer separator element life. Typically, and depending on operating parameters, only one element change over a 5 year period could be required. This compares with 5 element changes for a conventional filter system.
Furthermore FiltAir-Receiver® can provide additional protection and contaminant separation in an excessive oil carry over situation preventing the need for additional equipment such as oil eliminators, acting as a standby separator to support quality critical applications.
In all our contact cooled compressed air applications utilising FiltAir-Receiver®, our system design incorporates a downstream high efficiency coalescing filter, providing a particle removal (including water and oil aerosols) down to 0.01 micron and maximum remaining oil content of 0.01 mg/m3.
